DIY Hurricane Candle Holder

I found some great owl napkins while out shopping a week ago. I bought a pack and set them in a drawer until I could decide what to make with them.
May I introduce my handmade cheap-as-chips hurricane candle holder!
What you'll need:
  • Paper napkins of your choosing.
  • Mog Podge Matte finish or a clear-drying glue.
  • A glass jar of your choosing (make sure the opening is large enough for heat to escape).
  • An embellishment like ribbon or twine.
  • One tea-light candle.
 Instructions:
  1. Open your paper napkin and cut the picture to fit around the jar. Peel off the two layers of plain paper on the back of the napkin so it's tissue paper thin.
  2. Mod Podge your glass jar all the way around then gently lay the napkin onto the glue and press into position.
  3. Wait to dry then gently apply a layer of Mod Podge over the top of the napkin, taking care nto to tear it.
  4. Once dry, add your final embellishment to the top of the jar. I used twine and tied it into a bow.
  5. Put your candle inside and light it.
Viola! Your very own customized hurricane candle holder!
Beware, never leave candle alone while burning. Do not leave alone with children. Glass may get hot.

On the mend

These last 6 days have felt like an entire month. I have had the flue 2 times in as many months. This time around I totally lost my voice for a few days. On antibiotics again and on the mend, I'll be back to blogging soon!
Meanwhile, here's the new mug from typo I bought myself for my birthday (On sale $2.00 yeah!!).

Canvas Shoes

Along with the pair for my friends daughter, I bought some little peoples shoes and have finally finished decorating them.
I love the kitty ones the most!

Sadly I have a very sore throat today. So bad I've had to take pain killers. Hopefully by taking all that yucky stuff that is apparently good for you (garlic, horseradish, echinacea, vitamin C etc) and eating nothing but fruit and veg, I shall banish this cold for good. Wish me luck...

Meet Peter-Pan

Remember when Jasper and Diego had babies? Meet Peter-Pan, their son.
Peter-Pan (Pancake for short) was so adorable I just couldn't let him go to another home. I had to keep him! He's the same age as Cricket, but you wouldn't know it. He's living up to his name and simply refuses to grow.
He'll start getting bigger soon I hope, but he's seriously tiny for his age even though he eats the same amount of food as everyone else.
Even as a baby I could tell him apart from his brothers and sisters by the tail pattern. Peter-Pan is one of the family now, very tame, and I wouldn't change him for anything!

Meet Scally-Wag

Scally-Wag is my new baby scaly-breasted lorikeet. I found him.
I was sitting outside soaking up some sun one morning when some lorikeets flew past, and one flopped out of a tree and landed on the ground not far from me. So I got up and went to check that it was ok. His parents had been trying to teach him how to fly but his wing muscles weren't up to the challenge, not to mention he had no tail feathers (and still doesn't).
So I picked him up and put him in a spare cage we have lying around. I'm just glad I got to him before a hawk did! His parents came and visited him a few times but they have stopped now that they know he's safe and happy.
He learned very quickly how to hop onto your finger when you offer it to him. He's never bitten and has become as tame as any hand-reared bird. He loves kisses and snuggling and going for walks around the garden on your shoulder. He has his own brand new cage now, which is the same colour green as he is!
We've had him for just over a month. He still cant fly and still has no tail feathers, so I guess we're stuck with him. Not that I'm complaining....
